Q: What is LiveScan fingerprinting?

A: Live scan fingerprinting refers to both the technique and the technology used by law enforcement agencies and private facilities (like us) to capture fingerprints and palm prints electronically, without the need for the more traditional method of ink and paper.

Q. What do I need to bring with me?

A: You will need a current, Government-issued, photo ID. We accept the following forms of photo identification:

  • A current MD or other State Drivers License
  • Identification issued by State or local Government
  • U.S. passport or unexpired foreign passport
  • Certificate of U.S. citizenship or naturalization
  • Alien registration card
  • U.S. Military Identification card

You will need to bring any information required of you by the agency requesting your background, including your agency’s Authorization and ORI numbers and the reason you’re being fingerprinted. This helps to ensure your background check is submitted without error. Please download fill out the DPSCS/CJIS Livescan Pre-registration Application, print, and submit at the time of your appointment.

Q: Can I just walk?

Yes, we do accept walkins. Because we value your time, however, we recommend that you schedule an appointment so your wait time is at a minimum. It has been reported that the wait time can be up to two hours at CJIS-Baltimore, and more than an hour at our competitors’ locations. Our appointments are set every 15 minutes to ensure you will be seen in a timely fashion.

​Please be advised that appointments take priority. If possible, prior to walking in, please contact our office so we may make every effort to work you into the schedule and decrease any potential wait time on your part.

Q: How long does the processing take?

A: State of Maryland criminal history background checks submitted electronically by Maryland Livescan’s optimized LSFP network capability average 24 hours or less to complete. As an FBI channeling partner, FBI criminal history background checks are typically available to the applicant to retrieve in person or electronically in 2 hour’s or less on average. Approximately 7 to 10 day’s after submitting the record request applicant and licensees should receive a copy of the report by regular mail. Individuals who fail to receive a copy of the report are advised to contact the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services directly at 410-764-4501 or their appropriate state or Federal government agency.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: In accordance with the Code of Maryland Reglations (COMAR) 12.15.01.14 the current fee schedule independently set by the identified agency associated with processing criminal record background checks on behalf of applicant and/or licensees via the use of the state of Maryland livescan network are; Livescan Fingerprintng $25.00 (service provided by Maryland Livescan). State of Maryland criminal records check $18.00 (service provided by the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Criminal Justice Information Systems DPSCS-CJIS). Federal criminal records check $16.50 (service provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Additional fees for services required to process specific licenses and/or applications may apply. CJIS PROCESSING

Fingerprints are sent directly to CJIS for processing, our company does not handle any results and we assure that all of our customers personal information is kept secret. We do not share our customers information with any agency other than CJIS
